  • When appropriate begin writting 1 short story a week (4 or more sentences, as you deem fit)
  • A Primary Reader

Spelling
  • McGuffey's Eclectic Spelling Book, up to lesson 6
Literature
Choose as many or as few of these books as you see fit.  You don't need to read all of them.  Just the ones you like the best.
  • The Great Big Treasury of Beatrix Potter by Beatrix Potter
  • A Child's Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson
  • Arthur Scott Bailey
    • Sleepy-Time Tales: the Tale of Fatty Coon
    • Tale of Brownie Beaver
    • The Tale of Buster Bumblebee
    • The Tale of Cuffy Bear
    • The Tale of Freddie Firefly
    • The Tale of Frisky Squirrel
    • The Tale of Henrietta Hen
    • The Tale of Major Monkey
    • The Tale of Old Mr. Crow
    • The Tale of Pony Twinkleheels

    • The Tale of Tommy Fox
    • The Tale of Solomon Owl
    • The Tale of Timothy Turtle

History
  • Stories of American Life and Adventure (read aloud)
Biography
  • Stories of Great Americans for Little Americans (read aloud)
Geography:
  • Peter Parley's Geography for Beginners*
  • First Lessons in Geography by James Monteith  NOTE:  A few of the details in this book are out of date.  I recommend that you get a map of the World and an ink pen and go through it, briefly updating the text.  It shouldn't take too long and would be a good project for an older child.
  • We use & recommend this free social studies & science curriculum for its Christian-based and family-based  perspective, figure on 1 or 2 books per month to be continued from Preschool through Grade 1.

*We replaced The Seven Little Sisters who Live on the Round Ball that Floats in the Air by Jane Andrewsfelt for Peter Parley's Geography.  We felt it was a better choice with a more concise plan for learning and  stories intermixed. Work at your own pace each week.
**or build your own library at home using the dewey decimal system.
